Assistant Manager - O&M

Position Summary

Responsible for daily O&M activities in Transmission Lines. 

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

1. Transmission Line Operations & Maintenance

• Manage end-to-end O&M activities of EHV transmission lines, associated towers, foundations, conductors, OPGW, earth wire, insulators, fittings, and line accessories.
• Develop and implement annual maintenance plans, preventive maintenance schedules, and reliability improvement programs.
• Ensure transmission line availability targets are achieved as per regulatory and organizational requirements.
• Monitor network performance, outages, forced trippings, and line health indices.
• Analyze line faults, trippings, and disturbances and ensure timely corrective actions.

2. Patrolling & Condition Monitoring

• Plan and supervise:
  • Routine patrolling
  • Thermovision inspections
  • Drone-based line inspections
  • Tower-top inspections
  • Specialized inspections for river crossings and critical spans
• Monitor conductor condition, tower integrity, foundation health, corrosion, insulator contamination, and vegetation encroachments.
• Identify potential risks and implement predictive maintenance strategies.

3. Reliability Improvement & Asset Management

• Implement condition-based maintenance (CBM) and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for major outages, conductor snapping, insulator failures, tower damages, and OPGW failures.
• Develop asset replacement and refurbishment plans based on asset health assessment.
• Support implementation of Asset Management Systems in line with ISO 55000 principles.

4. Emergency Restoration & Breakdown Maintenance

• Lead restoration activities during:
  • Line outages
  • Tower collapses
  • Conductor snapping
  • OPGW failures
  • Natural calamities (floods, cyclones, lightning, landslides, forest fires)
• Mobilize emergency restoration systems (ERS), manpower, equipment, and contractors during contingencies.
• Coordinate with SLDCs, RLDCs, substations, OEMs, and contractors for rapid restoration.

5. Right of Way (ROW) Management

• Manage ROW compliance and corridor maintenance.
• Coordinate with local authorities, landowners, forest departments, railways, highways, and utilities.
• Address encroachment issues and ensure statutory clearances are maintained.
• Lead vegetation management and tree-cutting activities within transmission corridors.

6. Safety Management

• Ensure compliance with:
  • CEA Safety Regulations
  • Electricity Act requirements
  • Company HSE standards
  • PTW (Permit to Work) procedures
• Conduct safety audits, toolbox talks, mock drills, and safety training.
• Investigate incidents and near misses and implement preventive measures.
• Promote a zero-harm safety culture across all sites.
