Assistant Manager - O&M (Protection Engineer)

Position Summary

The Substation Protection Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and operational efficiency of transmission substations through implementation, maintenance, testing, and monitoring of protection and control systems. The role involves protection scheme analysis, fault investigation, relay coordination, commissioning support, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with applicable utility and regulatory standards.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

1. Protection System Management

   1. Study, analyze and implement approved protection schemes.

   2. Ensure reliability and effectiveness of protection systems and control schemes.

   3. Monitor protection equipment performance and recommend improvements.

2. Fault Analysis & System Reliability

   1. Investigate system faults and disturbances.

   2. Conduct fault analysis and relay performance assessments.

   3. Implement corrective actions to enhance grid reliability and asset availability.

3. Testing, Commissioning & Maintenance

   1. Oversee installation, testing and commissioning of protection systems during project execution and O&M phases.

   2. Perform periodic testing and preventive maintenance of protection equipment.

   3. Troubleshoot protection systems and ensure timely restoration.

4. Compliance & Coordination

   1. Coordinate with engineering teams, utilities and regulatory authorities.

   2. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements and statutory guidelines.

5. Team Capability Building

   1. Provide technical guidance to site teams.

   2. Support training and development of junior management staff.

• Knowledge of SCADA, PLCC, protection systems  
• Experience in testing and commissioning activities
